To Be An Angel

What does it take to be an angel?
Where does the sun go when it sleeps?
Is every star that shines so brightly in the sky
Another promise I must keep?

I know, I know I should by now
It isn't written in the stars
Shadows, dreams & light and dark
That sometimes seems just as far

What does it take to be an angel?
What are the things we hope to find?
A million lives we live on earth
To one mistake, another birth
Will we be here at the end of time?

I know, I know so many things by now
I fear they'll never come to pass
Childhood dreams of grander things
That slip away so fast

I used to lay be down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soul to keep
But now I spend nights counting sheep
Just holding on to my dreams

I know, I know not much right now
Of everything we're part
Forget what's written up above
It's written in your heart

I know, I know I should by now
